Computer For Christmas BLOG
October 28, 2006 | Leave a Comment
In an earlier post, I wrote about my redesigned Computer for Christmas site.
Since then, I’ve added my Computer for Christmas Blog to the site. In the blog, I write about the current issues for new computer buyers - whether they are first-time computer buyers or long-time computer users.
Sometimes, these will be hardware-related. Others will be software related. This Christmas, they are Windows Vista-related, too!
SEO - Google Link Analysis
October 28, 2006 | Leave a Comment
The “My SEO Tips” blog has a very interesting — and readable — SEO article about Google’s link analysis patent.
Rather than forcing you to read through a convoluted patent application, full of the esoteric gibberish of patent lawyers, this short article presents some basics from the article.
The most important point I picked up from the article is that Google doesn’t just look for inbound links, it looks for regular growth in inbound links…
My new Computer for Christmas site
October 25, 2006 | 4 Comments
I’ve just released my “new” (reworked) site Computer for Christmas
It was up last year in its first draft, although I got little traffic to it. This time, I’ve designed a new header, played with the colors, and added a lot more information and search features.
Check it out when you get a chance — and comment about it here…
Blog Software - Moving from Serendipity to WordPress
October 24, 2006 | Leave a Comment
I made up my mind. I like to tinker with the pages too much to use Serendipity as my blog software package.
Drawing on the Web has been a WordPress blog since the beginning. But, I have several other blogs running Serendipity. The “Smarty Templates” for all user-interaction displays may be neat from a developer perspective, but it is a royal pain for someone who wants to make a quick and easy tweak to their system.
I liked Serendipity and may continue one of my blogs in it. But, deciphering what’s happening is a real challenge.
So, I just moved the 300+ posts of my Terry’s Computer Tips blog into a new format in WordPress. Installation of WordPress was easy, but you have to download, unzip, add and then upload any additional plugins and templates you want to use.
Once you’ve got one blog, though, just copy the package to a different directory, tweak the config.ini file and upload to a new directory at your web host. Point your new domain or new sub-domain to the new directory. And, point your browser there…
You can read more about the changes to my Terry’s Computer Tips blog in that blog.
Drawing on the Web and my Terry’s Computer Tips blog are hosted in the same Powweb account that has all my other blogs and my Terry’s Computer Tips site. Powweb currently has a $5.77/month sale for 1- and 2-year hosting purchases — this sale expires October 31st.
Getting Traffic to Your Web Site, part 2
October 19, 2006 | 1 Comment
One of the best ways to get traffic is to trade links with other sites.
To get started, you don’t have to spend a lot, maybe not even spend a cent.
All you have to do is reach an agreement with another webmaster. By exchanging links, the efforts both sites do will benefit both sites. The traffic that goes to the other site could potentially click on the link of your site and visit your site as well.
This works well especially when both sites are related to each other, because Google and other search engines will give more value the links from related sites.
Another approach is to write and release articles to article distribution sites
Write articles that could pique the interest that people could have in your product. Try writing articles that will provide tips and guides to other aficionados. Writing articles that provide good service and knowledge to other people would provide the necessary mileage your traffic flow needs.
Many sites offer free submission and posting of your articles. When people find interest in your articles they have a good chance of following the track by finding out where the article originated. Include a link or a brief description of your company with the article and there’s a great probability that they will go to your site.
Of course, search engines and visitors value Content. Write good content for your site.
Many search engines track down the keywords and keyword phrases your site uses and how they are used. It is not a requirement that a content should be done by a professional content writer. You could do your on but you have to make content for your site that is entertaining as well as informational. Your articles should have certain features as well as great quality.
Generally, internet users use search engines to find what they are looking for. Search engines in return use keyword searching in aiding their search results. With the right keywords, you could get high rankings in search engine results without the costs.
All of these methods and more will drive more traffic to your site for free. All it takes is a bit of effort and extended man hours. Learn all you can about the methods depicted here and you will soon have a site with a great traffic flow without the usual costs that come with it.
For much more information about linking for traffic and for search engine benefits, this ebook is an excellent guide on how to get effective inbound links to your site.
